Install the widget

Paste the script tag, choose where it can run and check that it works.

The widget is a single script tag. It adds a chat bubble to the bottom corner of the page and opens a chat panel when clicked.

Get your snippet

Open Sites, pick your site and find the Embed the widget card. Click Copy snippet.

If you've changed the widget's appearance, the snippet includes those settings as extra attributes. Copy it again after any change. See Customize the widget.

Where to paste it

Paste the snippet just before the closing </body> tag. Put it in your shared layout, theme footer or site-wide custom code setting so it loads on every page. Adding it more than once on a page does nothing extra; only the first copy runs.

Allowed domains

Each site has one Widget domain. The widget only answers on that domain, so your snippet doesn't work if someone copies it onto another website.

  • example.com allows example.com and www.example.com.
  • *.example.com allows example.com and every subdomain, such as docs.example.com and shop.example.com.
  • localhost and 127.0.0.1 always work, so you can test locally.

To change it, click Edit site on your site page. Changing the domain re-crawls the site, subject to the same 10-minute wait as Re-crawl sitemap.

Check it works

Open a page on your site and look for the chat bubble. Ask a question your pages answer. If the bubble doesn't appear or the chat shows an error, see Widget troubleshooting.
